Vragen web hosting

I want a website. What do I have to do?

Four simple steps.

  1. Register the name of your website.
  2. Make sure you set up a good hosting arrangement. For a small or personal website, you can ask to have shared hosting. Dedicated hosting is recommended for business and more complex websites.
  3. Create your website or speak to a professional web designer to help you.
  4. Put your website online.

Your website must always be hosted on a webserver.
Which is something you can call on Nucleus to provide.
You can also come to us to register your domain name.

What is "Shared Hosting"?

Shared hosting means you share a server with other webservers and e-mail servers.  This is the best option for most websites.  It is a lot cheaper than buying or leasing a separate server.
Which means you can benefit from a low entry price yet enjoy the benefits of professional hosting.

The opposite of shared hosting is dedicated hosting. This is where a server, which may or may not be virtual, is “dedicated” totally and solely to you.

Is Shared hosting a good option for me?

If your website does not have a very high number of visitors, shared hosting is usually the best solution.  For special applications, a dedicated server is often a better option.  You can always contact us about this for honest and expert advice.  Just tell us what you want to do or achieve.  We will then tell you what the best hosting solution is.

What is the best option, Windows or Linux?

Opting for Windows or Linux depends on the way your website is structured and the applications you want to use it for.
Go for Windows hosting if your website uses:

  • ASP or ASP.net
  • an MS Access or MS SQL database

If your website is created using in Frontpage, Windows hosting is recommended.

If you use PHP or MySQL, opt for Linux hosting
If you have no special requirements, Linux is cheaper and just as good.

Does Nucleus have a solution for my personal website?

Nucleus is a real hosting specialist.  We provide hosting for every conceivable application.  From large to small, business or personal.  Shared or a cluster of servers.  Whatever it is, it’s no problem for us to provide.

Most of all, don’t be shy ...

I want a web store. Which package would I do best to choose?

That depends more on the technical requirements (also see the question “What is the best option: Windows or Linux”).  The best thing to do is discuss this with your web designer.  Or with us.  Call us on 03 275 01 60.

Can I put my own package together?

Our packages are put together in such a way that you will always find something that fits in with your needs.
If you have any doubts or specific questions, call us on 03 275 01 60

My website is growing fast. Can I upgrade?

No problem. You can upgrade at any time – and you can even do it yourself on the control panel.
You won’t waste a cent in doing so because the system calculates the balance remaining up to the day your current subscription period expires.

I think the package I have chosen may be too large. Can I move to a smaller version?

Yes, you can. Contact our support department to arrange things before the next expiry date for your hosting. 03 275 01 60.

How long does it take to activate hosting?

If you pay online, your hosting can be active and up and running within 10 minutes.

If you pay by bank transfer, we will activate your order as soon as your bank pays the hosting fee into our account.

How do I cancel my hosting arrangement?

There’s no need for you to do anything.
Nucleus does not believe in tacit renewals. Which is why you are required to renew your hosting arrangements and additional services each year.

If you no longer wish to use your hosting or domain name, all you have to do is not renew and your hosting/domain name will automatically be deleted on the expiry date.

What is the difference between shared web hosting, virtual private server and a dedicated server?

With shared hosting, you share one of our web servers with other shared customers.

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a web server that is subdivided into various virtual servers using modern virtualisation technology.  So with a VPS, you have all of the benefits of a dedicated server, but you save on the cost of the hardware that is shared with other customers.

A dedicated server is a server that is allocated totally to on customer or project and can be set up and managed according to the requirements of the customer.

Where are your datacenters located?

Currently, we have data centre capacity in Antwerp, Diegem, Nossegem and Zaventem.

What brands of servers do you provide?

A standard we work with SuperMicro.  SuperMicro is an 'early adapter' that is always able to supply us with the latest technology at the best prices.

Dell and HP can be provided on request.

A dedicated server or your own server in co-location? Which is the best option?

Our opinion?  In 90% of cases, a dedicated server makes the better choice.  With a dedicated server, Nucleus provides all of the hardware.  We do this through a Service Level Agreement (SLA).  Problems with the hardware on a dedicated server are problems for Nucleus, not your problem.

So with a dedicated server, you can be sure of having equipment that works properly.

Can I come to Nucleus for complex systems?

Of course you can. Nucleus is a Hosting Solution Builder. We listen to what you have to say, then create the solution that suits you best.  Standard, specific or even custom-built.

This principle applies for each individual server, as well as for complex systems with several servers, clusters, storage solutions, database solutions, etc.

Can you assist with setting up Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)?

No problem. Working with your developers, we will define the right direction for your SaaS project to take.  The combination of advice and our expertise in hosting environments help you to be a success as a SaaS provider.

How long are your contracts for?

As standard, our contracts run for 12 months.  For co-location and dedicated servers, there are also options for 6, 12 or 24 months.

Flexibility always comes first. If your needs change during the course of a contract, we will work with you to adjust things to suit you.

Can my project develop from shared hosting through VPS to dedicated hosting?

You bet.  We have seen lots of customers grow from their first cautious steps in shared hosting to international success stories on complex server structures.

Can I use more than one domain in 1 hosting package?

Yes – we can configure multiple domains for a hosting by request to our support department. We only allow this for sites with identical content. Meaning we can add the alias for 'mysite.com' when you have 'mysite.be' as the hosting for us, since both sites will display the same content.

I am a web designer and want to offer my customers hosting: can I become a reseller?

Nucleus has special facilities for resellers. You can offer all of our products to your customers on extremely attractive terms.  Attractive both for you and your customers.

You can buy all of our products online at significantly reduced rates. We operate with a virtual account into which you pay an amount in advance.  For more information, see our reseller page.

I want to use a specific plug-in or object for my website: how do I solve that need?

Send an e-mail to our support department for all the information you need about the plug-in. Our technical engineers will then look at your request.

If for reasons of load or security the plug-in is not suitable for shared hosting, a Virtual Private Server is the appropriate solution.

Can I use PHP and/or MySQL in a Windows shared hosting solution?

No. We very much believe in the right tools for the right system. PHP and MySQL run best on Linux and do we do not offer them in a Windows environment.

But if you really do require a combination of ASP and PHP, your best option is to go for Virtual Private Server for which we will create a secure environment for you in which you can work in both languages.

What uptime guarantees do you offer?

99.97%

How can I call on you for support?
