For a Linux Webhosting you can use a file named “.htaccess”, to create your own 404 error pages.
Create the file “.htaccess” in the /public_html/ directory of your webhosting (where your other website files are located). Add the following line to this file.
ErrorDocument 404 /index.html
This will make it so users see the file “index.html”, instead of a default 404 error page whenever a file can’t be found. Keep a close eye on the name of your “/index.html” file, the slash (/) at the beginning is needed.
Warning: by default, the use of .htaccess is not allowed. You can always contact us to enable this, free of charge.
For a Windows Webhosting we need to set this up for you. Please send us an e-mail with the page you want to use as your 404 error page, and we will configure this for you.
